About

I am an engineer and consultant with over a decade of experience developing reliable hardware and software systems for demanding applications. My career began in geology, where I gained expertise in mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This foundation in spatial data analysis and problem-solving continues to inform my engineering approach today, allowing me to combine technical depth with a broad, systems-level perspective.

For the past ten years, my primary focus has been in electrical engineering, with extensive work in circuit design, prototyping, and testing of spacecraft hardware. I specialize in developing high-reliability electronics for mission-critical systems, where performance must be guaranteed over years of continuous operation. Several of my designs are currently operating in the harsh environment of space without failure, a record that reflects my emphasis on rigorous testing, precision design, and durability under extreme conditions. My independent consulting practice is distinct from this work, but it carries the same focus on reliability and performance in environments where failure is not an option.

My experience spans a wide range of industries and use cases. I have developed hardware capable of withstanding the dust, heat, and vibration of California's Central Valley agricultural fields, as well as systems designed for industrial and consumer markets. In addition to specialized and rugged hardware, I have also designed circuits for consumer products that have gone through mass production, giving me direct experience with design-for-manufacturing (DFM) practices, cost optimization, and the certification processes required to bring products successfully to market. I also have hands-on expertise with Internet of Things (IoT) devices, combining sensors, connectivity, and cloud integration to create practical, data-driven solutions. On the software side, my work includes embedded firmware, desktop and mobile applications, automation scripts, and database-driven tools. This breadth allows me to deliver complete solutions that bridge the gap between hardware, software, and data.

In addition to technical design, I assist organizations in improving how their teams interact with technology. By engaging directly with staff and examining workflows, I identify inefficiencies and recommend targeted improvements that reduce bottlenecks and improve productivity. This combination of engineering capability and process consulting enables me to provide value across the spectrum: from early-stage startups seeking to launch a product, to established companies refining existing systems.

My consulting practice is built on a focus that has guided my career: delivering solutions that are practical, resilient, and built to last. Whether the challenge involves electronics, software, data, or workflow design, I bring cross-disciplinary expertise and a proven record of solving complex problems under demanding conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with clients outside Los Angeles?

Yes. I collaborate remotely across the U.S. and worldwide. My primary focus is Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and Santa Clarita Valley, but I adapt to fully remote projects effectively.

What industries do you specialize in?

I've worked in aerospace, agriculture, consumer electronics, and industrial systems. Services include PCB design & testing, embedded systems development, GIS analysis, and custom software.

Can you handle both hardware and software?

Yes. My background spans electrical engineering, embedded firmware, GIS, and software development. I deliver end-to-end solutions that integrate hardware, software, and data.

What makes your PCB design services different?

Reliability and validation. Every PCB undergoes functional testing, debugging, and real-world analysis—signal integrity, thermal considerations, and manufacturability—before release.

Do you take small projects or only large engagements?

Both. From quick prototypes and failure analysis to long-term R&D partnerships, I tailor scope and process to the project's needs.

What are your hours and availability?

I offer flexible scheduling and can align with client timelines. I'm available for consultations at all times and respond promptly.

PCB Design & Testing

PCB Layout & Prototyping

I take ideas from schematic to reality, creating layouts optimized for performance, manufacturability, and reliability. Whether it's a single-layer prototype or a complex multi-layer design, I can prepare boards ready for fabrication and assembly.

Hardware Validation & Testing

Each board needs to prove itself under real-world conditions. I perform functional testing, signal integrity checks, and environmental simulations to ensure the hardware performs as intended.

Failure Analysis & Debugging

When boards don't behave, I specialize in tracking down the root causes. Using a mix of instrumentation, experience, and creative problem-solving, I resolve noise, thermal, and component issues before they become production problems.

Embedded Systems & Firmware

Microcontroller Programming

From bare-metal firmware to higher-level frameworks, I develop software that gets hardware working seamlessly. I write clean, maintainable code for microcontrollers to handle everything from sensors to communications.

Device Integration

Embedded systems rarely work in isolation. I connect microcontrollers with sensors, actuators, displays, and wireless modules, ensuring reliable communication and smooth system operation.

Optimization & Debugging

Existing firmware often needs tuning. I track down bugs, optimize execution speed, and reduce power consumption, improving system stability and extending hardware lifetimes.

Software & Applications

Desktop Applications

I build custom software to make complex tasks easier: whether it's analyzing lab data, visualizing results, or controlling hardware. My desktop applications are designed to be intuitive and tailored to client workflows.

Mobile Solutions

Fieldwork and data collection often require mobile tools. I create lightweight apps for iOS and Android that handle mapping, logging, and quick data entry, bringing information straight to where it's needed.

Automation & Scripting

Repetitive tasks waste time and introduce errors. I design automation solutions that cut down on manual work, using scripts and small programs to keep processes efficient, accurate, and reliable.

Data Analysis & Databases

Database Management

Clean, well-structured data is the foundation of good decision-making. I design, maintain, and optimize databases, ensuring information is accurate, consistent, and accessible for long-term projects.

Statistical Analysis

Raw data isn't useful until it tells a story. I apply statistical methods to extract patterns, identify trends, and provide insights that can guide project strategy and decision-making.

Geospatial Data (GIS)

Data often has a spatial component. I specialize in integrating and analyzing geographic data, producing results that link location with performance, outcomes, or environmental conditions.

Geospatial & Mapping Services

GIS Analysis

Geographic Information Systems allow us to connect data to place. I provide spatial analysis that highlights relationships, patterns, and opportunities hidden in the landscape.

Cartography & Visualization

Maps communicate more effectively than spreadsheets. I produce clear, professional maps designed for reports, presentations, or interactive use, customized to highlight the story you need to tell.

Field Data Integration

Field measurements are most powerful when connected to digital mapping. I combine GPS, survey, and observational data with GIS layers to produce actionable and visually compelling results.

Engineering Consulting & R&D

Systems Prototyping

Turning a concept into a working prototype requires both creativity and technical depth. I can rapidly design, assemble, and test proof-of-concept systems that demonstrate feasibility and pave the way for final designs.

Technical Problem-Solving

Some problems don't have off-the-shelf answers. I approach technical challenges with a cross-disciplinary mindset, bringing together hardware, software, and data experience to deliver solutions.

Cross-Disciplinary Projects

My background bridges electrical engineering, geology, and GIS. I thrive on projects that need expertise across multiple domains, developing solutions that are unconventional but practical.
